An online Focus Group Training on Open Science & Research Data Management (RDM) was organized on 19 - 20 April 2021 with over 105 Zoom and 100 YouTube participants, within the scope of Turkey in Horizon 2020 Phase II Project which is co-financed by the EU and the Republic of Turkey and managed by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), within the framework of the Competitive Sectors Programme of the Ministry of Industry and Technology.
The first day of the event commenced with the opening speech of TUBITAK, Turkey in Horizon 2020 Phase-II Project Coordination Unit Officer, Mr. Çağrı Yıldırım.. Highlighting how important the event is, and mentioning the Turkey in Horizon 2020 Project and Green Deal calls in Horizon 2020, Mr. Yıldırım provided details about TUBITAK Turkey Research Area (TARAL) supports and current project events and he left the floor to Mrs. Ebru Soyuyüce Aydın (Chief Export of TUBITAK ULAKBIM) for her speech. Mrs. Aydın mentioned TUBITAK's Open Science projects, Aperta Open Archive, and Turkey Open Archive Harman, and Elli Papadopoulou from the ATHENA Research Center stepped up to the stage to start the session.
After delivering information on the Open Science, Elli Papadopoulou pointed out the ways and mandates of open science and answered the participants' questions afterinforming them on publications, data and clues to be utilised in proposals. In the continuation of the event, Iryna Kuchma, Manager of the Open Access Program at eILF.net briefed the participants on Plan S on open access and online tools. After the question-answer session, Gültekin Gürdal, the Head of the Library and Documentation at the Izmir Institute of Technology and the Representative of OpenAire project for Turkey delivered his presentation focusing on OpenDOAR, Zenodo, OER, and the archives in Turkey, setting examples and providing resources about open research.After completing question-and-answer session moderated by Mr. Gürdal, and the first session was ended.
During the second session of the event, Alessia Bardi from the National Research Council of Italy shared fruitful information about OpenAIRE Research Graphics and Research Community Dashboards. Argiro Kokogiannaki from Athens University and Ioanna Grypari & Harry Dimitropoulos from the ATHENA Research Center also informed the crowd about Monitoring the Open Science, and then they completed their presentations on OpenAIRE MONITOR and Open Science Observatory to help the participants learn how to apply the open science facilitators and then proceeded with the Question-Answer session that concluded the first day of the event.
The second day of the event began with the presentation of Elli Papadopoulou from the ATHENA Research Center and Emilie Hermans from Ghent University on the applications of the Open Science and the FAIR data principles. After Gültekin Gürdal and Elli Papadopoulou's examples of best practices on Open Science and Research Data Management, they completed their presentations with the Question and Answer section.
During the last session of the event, Manolis Terrovitis from the ATHENA Research Center gave a presentation on Sensitive Data Processing (Amnesia) and data anonymization. Lastly, Gültekin Gürdal ve Elli Papadopoulou provided participants with thr Writing Data Management Plans: H2020 and TUBITAK template for Argos The event was concluded with the presentations of Mr. Gürdal and Mrs. Papadopoulou followed by a Question-Answer session. During the event, the speakers used an interactive event application for voting and surveys.
