Young life scientists can apply for EMBO Installation Grant, a joint programme in which TUBITAK is one of the funding organisations, to build up their research laboratory in Turkey.

EMBO Installation Grants support early-career scientists establishing independent laboratories in one of five participating EMBC Member States that fund their respective grantees. At present, Installation Grant applications are accepted annually by the Czech Republic, Estonia, Poland, Portugal, Turkey and Lithuania with the aim of strengthening the life sciences in these countries.

EMBO IG grantees from Turkey receives 50.000€/year for 3-5 years from TUBITAK, and become a part of EMBO Young Investigator Network. Since 2007, 29 young scientists from Turkey obtained the grant and in total ~ 5 Million Euro support has been provided to the grantees by TUBITAK.

Who can apply?

Candidates applying for an Installation Grant must:

  • Be negotiating a full-time group leader position at an institute/university in the Czech Republic, Estonia, Poland, Portugal, Turkey or Lithuania by the date of application
    OR have established a laboratory in one of these countries in the last two years.
  • Have spent at least two consecutive years outside the country in which they are planning to establish their laboratory in the four years prior to application.
  • Have received their PhD less than 9 years prior to application.
